Don’t Smash Those Keys; Here’s How to Learn Piano!
Hankering to discover how to learn piano? Here are some tips.
1. Get started.
Getting started with lessons is always the most difficult part. Most people put it off until they lose interest.
2. Master hand movements.
Learn how to play with each hand first. You can’t master the use of both hands until you learn how to use all fingers on your left and right hand.
3. Master a single and very simple piece.
Do this first before you even venture anywhere near the foot pedals. Coordinating hand-and-foot movement is difficult. You will discover just how difficult soon enough.
4. Learn to pedal.
Practice counting beats using your feet. If you use the foot pedal without mastering hand movements first, you will surely struggle with the hand and foot coordination.
5. Learn to imagine.
Listen to your favorite song. Or, play this in your head. At the same time, imagine yourself producing this music while pressing down piano keys. Visualizing keys improves your focus. It also helps you master keys and your musical scores quickly.
6. Create a practice plan.
If you’re serious about not just finding out how to learn piano but playing it well, devote an hour or two each day to piano practice. All piano teachers – whether it’s a Rocket Piano teacher or one who goes to your house daily – will tell you that when it comes to piano, practice makes perfect.
